A Visit to an Old Friend.

Such beautiful weather this weekend. I realised little Isabella and I hadn't visited the beach for far too long and on Friday it called to us. Sparkling seas rolling busily onto the shore, seagulls riding the frothy crests and a blueness to the water that the photos didn't capture.

Weed needing to be thrown as far into the depths as a three year old can manage (which isn't very far as it happens).

Crashing waves throwing spray into the sky. We felt it sprinkle us as it was carried on the breeze.

The shore was heavy with seadweed of all types and I realised I had forgotten the names of most. Another aim for this year then: to re-learn and add to my knowledge of the beach flora and fauna, hopefully including the children in this journey.

I'm thinking we could make posters of our finds and name them as bringing home much of it for our nature table is obviously not possible. Lovely colourful drawings they will be won't they?

So, Friday was a bright, sparkling, unbelievably warm day which heralded the same for the whole weekend. So beautiful; so good to re-visit my old friend and be reminded of how much I love it in all its guises.

The search for the perfect wave begins again it seems.

How was your weekend? x

  3. My weekend was not as outdoorsy as yours as the weather was very dull and uninspirational, so I did some crafting instead! The wave photos are stunning. I can almost taste the salt in the air. How I yearn to be by the British sea on a spring like day. x

  7. Glad you had such a wonderful time, and took such delightful pictures of you "old friend."
My weekend, across the pond, was snow, snow, and more snow. So much so that buses (and cars) aren't moving much. Typical winter storm on the Canadian prairies. We'll all be dug out in a day or three.

  8. ....by the sea!!

I haven't been down for ages too which is daft as it's just a stones throw away or slightly more if it's seaweed.

take care Pipany and have a fabulous week,

  10. Huge envy here, especially as I am confined to barracks for moment. Wonderful evocative pictures though - could certainly hear the sound of crashing waves, and the taste of salt in the air reading this.

You could collect up some of the weed - it makes a great fertilizer, just spread it on the veggie plot, and it will disappear in 4 - 5 weeks adding lots of goodies to the soil.

I love your idea for the beach flora and fauna.I have just bought a book on Art Forms from the Ocean, and I'm hoping to use the drawings as inspiration for embroidery. Thank you for the recommendation on the cupcakes. I shall try them soon.x

  12. The picture of sea weed would make up a lovely pattern in freeform crcohet - natural inspiration at its best.

  13. I had a great weekend, thank you Pipany, but it didn't include a trip to the beach. I'll be on the ferry today though, so I'll have my chance to enjoy the rollers, the gulls and the salt air. Do you bring seaweed home for your garden?

  17. Love this pictorial record. It's easy to forget names once known I find, having had the same experience with the once familiar names of wild flowers!

My weekend was busy, though it was very nice to see the sun, all the same. Bye for now, Lesley
