A Golden Morn.
How beautiful this weather is: cold, cold, cold with golden light and signs of the coming spring all around. The cold is preferable to rain as far as I'm concerned but mittens are needed for sewing as my fingers get so chilly. The sunrise this morning caught my eye and ceased the school run preparations for just a moment.
It felt so good to bathe for the shortest while in that rich golden light before the icy air chased me back indoors.
I love the almost misty quality of these bronze-burnished branches against that soft blue.
I grabbed the camera on my way out and popped down to one of my old haunts. Penryn River is somewhere I have posted many photos of in the past and it felt time I visited again to capture the early morning light on this pretty spot.
Soft; golden; misty; ethereal...
poetic words drifted through my mind echoing the lazy flight of the river birds as they glided over the frozen banks.
And look just how very frozen those banks were. It always intrigues me to see such hard frost so close to sea water, but look how the sun has gilded the tips of the trees with its Midas touch.
Beautiful Cornwall at her best.
And now I must leave the river and return to work, albeit with a poorly little Isabella and her very chesty cough to keep me company, poor soul.
I hope you enjoyed a Friday morning nostlagia trip along the river banks. x

Just Popping By.
I am missing my blog and want to get back here, but I am rather in the midst of some cheery bunting - 40 metres of the stuff to be precise. Quite a large order. Wonder what it is for? Hmm, maybe I'll ask.
I want to get back to sorting the blog out as it is mid change at the moment but oh, doesn't it eat time away once you start playing with new things? Thank you to my dear friend Diana who helped me find my 'global settings' problem (no, I didn't know I had one either!) and also gifted me some gorgeous sock weight yarn. New things to show then...
...when I get a mo. Be good to see some new pics too wouldn't it? The tulips are up but obviously not out as the image suggests. Another photograph of Coombe to keep things going. Well done to those of you who guessed the last boat picture was of Penryn River.
To be continued x

A Bit of This and That.
This morning Mustang and Biscuit seemed very sedate, gliding up and down the pond with none of the usual frenetic diving and splashing. I think the warmth in the sun had mellowed them as they took their morning constitutional just before breakfast.
Looking back, it was another lovely weekend with so much going on. A little trip out in Mermaid had been much anticipated and fortunately the sun shone for us.
I made little cheese and vegetable pies, and chocolate brownies in the morning to keep us going out on the water.
It was easy to slip into a slightly hypnotic state as the oars cut through the water... well, less so once I joined Dave in the rowing.
We passed houseboats in various states of (dis)repair, some brightly coloured with fires being lit and others shabbily beautiful as they slipped slowly, slowly into the climbing water.
I have photographed these many, many times from the riverbank so it was great to be able to take a different perspective.
We made our way up the river towards Penryn quay, weaving in and out of all kinds of boats on the way.
It's such hungry work sitting here looking gorgeous!
I have realised how difficult it is to take pictures when in a busy harbour and of course I was supposed to be rowing! Many of my photos are out of focus or lopsided like this one, but you get the gist of how pretty it was.
The sun was warm, the breeze was balmy and we had a fantastic few hours n our dear little boat.
Back home in the garden the fungi are blooming and some are creating a strange beauty in their slow deterioration.
Isabella and Lucy played in the garden shrieking like mad things as they raced around, stopping only to bring me these beautiful fallen fig leaves which smell strongly of coconut buns! Most odd. We inspected green ones still on the bush, but they had none of this perfume.
I spent every free moment cutting out and embroidering for Chr ... well, I won't say it, but I guess you can work it out from what you see here. The stockpiling has been going on for a while now, so I must up the pace to ensure I can keep up with the demand when it starts.
That's all from me today. How was your weekend? x

A Chilly Morn.
Aren't the early morning skies incredible at the moment? The view from the edge of our front garden looks down over Penryn and Falmouth, over the fields, eventually reaching the sea in the distance. Today it offered another glorious display of deepest pink and velvet blue as the light gradually broke through to reveal a bitterly cold morning.
The children sat on the back of the sofa watching the dawn break through the window and I grabbed the camera to capture the display before it was over.
The icy morning held light wrapped in frozen air, colours cast onto sea and land that shimmered and changed so quickly that it was hard to catch one scene before another evolved.
A softer rose and gold landscape with hidden charcoal depths emerged by the shore, the slumberous sea quietly rolling in its sleepy state, the waves barely breaking the chilled silence as they shifted against the rocks.
Even the quay showed signs of the cold with stars frosting the wooden sleepers lining the edge.
Amazing how cold air seems to mute the palate leaving a misted scene without the mist - does that make sense?
Of course, even the cold could not dampen the bright colours of the boats on the banks.
Keep warm won't you? x
