Sleepy Time.
A short post today as yet again I have Isabella poorly with an ear infection. This seems to be something which a few of our children our prone to, my own hearing a little dull (to say the least) as a result apparently of childhood problems which have left them badly scarred. Funny what you find out about yourself when you are years older as I have little memory of having any problems other than a summer of throat infections.
So, another trip to the doctor, another day of working around a tired but otherwise ok soul - and that's just me! Oh those four hour stints of shrieking child in the dead of night when all your body cries out for is sleep and the ability to pour the next dose of medicine down the throat of said child in the hope, generally fairly vain, of easing her pain.
Take note: these night-time stints get harder to cope with the older you get. There you go - Pip's Tip for all those considering when to have children and I speak from the vast experience of having tried the ages 19, 23, 25, 34 and 42 to enable me to give a considered approach to the subject. Actually, I can honestly say each age has it's advantages and disadvantages, but today I am in sleepy mode, envious of the cat who is snuggled up on our quilt just to rub my nose in it...hah, perhaps I'll shove him outdoors just to make me feel better.
Still, the sun is shining, the first tulips are out and beautiful in their scarlet skirts, and things are fine really, better than fine now my little Isabella is over the worst. I might just curl up with her...just for a moment...snooze...
Have fun x

I feel for you! I had my daughter at age 37 and you are right about it being hard the sleepless nights at an older age! I also found that being an older mum meant that I reached the menopause just when she reached puberty - luckily we are both still alive to tell the tale but it was touch and go! Hope your nap will help and those lovely flowers and some spring sunshine will also boost your spirits.
ReplyDeleteYes I ahd my first child at 31 and my last child at 41. It is certainly physically harder tha older you get. However I also like to think that the older mother is also calmer (exhausted?) and has a better perspective on all the minor ups and downs. Well thats me on a good day - not quite so philosophical on a bad one!
ReplyDeletePoor lamb, I hope she feels better soon. I can't bear it when they are ill. Dev x
ReplyDeleteI had my two at 38 and 41 and the sleepless nights just about killed me In total I had about 5 and a half years without a full nights sleep and I think it aged me soooo much. I do hope your litte one is better soon.
ReplyDeleteI am so sorry to hear about your little girl Pipany. As a child I had repeated ear infections and was always seeing the ear, nose and throat specialist. Even as an adult I get earache from time to time. Something that soothes me (a little)is a couple of drops of neat lavender oil on a piece of cotton wool and placed gently in the outer ear. x
ReplyDeleteOh the poor thing, I do feel for her - and you too, of course! I used to get earaches when I was little but thankfully not infections but it was no fun all the same. Have you investigated allergies at all, it is a common symptom of a dairy intolerance/allergy you may be interested to hear?!
ReplyDeleteHope she's on the mend now.

ReplyDeleteTake it easy if you can.

sorry to hear about a poorly little girl - I know about sleep deprivation as you get older - we are now helping mind our darling grandaughter at the age of 62 and I do feel the need to snooze in the day !!!!!
ReplyDeleteOh Pipany, poor you and poor Isabella...I do hope you are both feeling better now. You need to grab any chance to snooze that you can to catch up after the broken nights. Take care, hope you soon feel fine again.

I hope Isabella is much better today and you have managed some sleep. I was another one who had repeated throat infections as a child but luckily my two boys are seldom ill.
ReplyDeleteLack of sleep in this house is due to two young cats who play chase at 3.00am - the noise they make! Karen X
Poor Isabella - ear pain is horrible, there's just no getting away from it. I hope she's better soon, and that you get to catch up on some sleep too!
