Holidays Pending.

I haven't had much time to post just lately what with the end of term actvities piling onto us and a busy workroom to 'manage' (and yes, I do use the term loosely). Still, we are almost there: not-so-little Lucy has her final day at her lovely school on Friday, September bringing the much dreaded move to 'big' school - though only dreaded by me I hasten to add. Lucy is full of excitement, sadness and total exhaustion as she also has one of the leads in the end of term play which takes place today. Hankies at the ready then!

And then...The Holidays! Woohoo! I can't wait and have so much I want to do: campfires in the garden as the twilight settles, weather permitting of course;

endless trips to the beach for swimming and diving and snorkelling, or lazing with a book or rockpool scavenging or....

game playing around the kitchen table on duller days. Just the chance to have them home, not hurl them through the door after a stressful session of 'where's your bag/shoes/coat?'. I'm sure you know the scene.

Don't get me wrong. There will be times when the mess that goes hand-in-hand with the holidays drives me crazy and times when the stress of needing to work on the business yet not miss out on the family scene will make my neck stiff with stress

BUT mostly Davey and I absolutely love the summer holidays and the chance to just be with our children.

The chance to sort through the clothes cupboards so that fashion faux pas such as these no longer take place (think those pjs may be too small don't you?)

and I'm not even going there on big sister's borrowed slippers and hat.

Time to chat to the older ones home from Uni or popping by from work, to hear their plans and funny stories from their day or listen to them messing about with friends who stop by, another plate added to the table as they drag another chair up to make room for just one more.

To cook up yummy meals with our own herbs and vegetables...

A chance to potter in the garden and note the apples slowly turning colour, webs glistening in the rain-rinsed sunlight.

To watch summer move gently into autumn and grasp the flowers while they last

Taking it easy where possible will be the order of each day. I love that sea and salt result in this beach-hair look so typical of holidays. Bless her.

Yes, hooray for having the children back and having them all to ourselves for a while. Let the squabbles be few and the fun be plenty (fingers crossed, eh?). And who knows, if the rain stops for a bit I may even manage to take some new photos!

Have a good day x

  1. Wow!! What a lot!! Will that be Penryn or Falmouth, as I was in the art school but lived in Penryn (also a lone parent) my 2 were able to go to Falmouth and loved every minute.
Penryn has now pulled it's socks up and is a recognised as an excellant school. As my 2 are 32 and 29 we are talking along time ago.
    Have a wonderful summer Pipany.

  6. I am pleased to read that you cannot wait to spent time with your children! I sounds like you will all enjoy the time together.
You read horror stories in the paper about parents that dread the holidays because they have to spent time with their children and you wonder why they had them in the first place?! x

  7. What a lovely post pip. I used to love the school holidays too when my kids were younger and could never understand the moans at the school gate about what on earth to do with them for six weeks. It was always great just not to have to rush around in the usual way and just to have time.
Hope your summer is a good one.

  9. Gosh, you do know it's going to fly by now. Lovely to hear how happy you are about spending time together. But... what about the new machine? Will it be neglected?

  10. Lovely to hear that you are all looking forward to spending the summer together, so many mums moan and groan over the school summer holidays, I never used to understand it. I loved every minute of my summers with the boys. The knowledge that you can be together and just potter about in the garden and have have lovely picnics and days out and about, it's what families should be all about.

Enjoy your summer together, and don't forget to post us a few pics along the way.

  11. I hear so many mums moaning about the summer holidays and how are they going to cope, it's refreshing to hear someone celebrating their time together. I have always loved the school holidays, no routine, lazy day and busy days and all that comes with it. They grow up so fast we should make the most of it while we can! Have a fabulous time!!

  12. I am enjoying having extra fun time with Muffin during the hols. Children get much longer Summer Hols here, but it never bothered me, and Mush is very generous letting us have extra adventures with Muffin, as she remember all the fun she had when she was growing up. Enjoy every minute of it.

  13. I hope you have a lovely time doing all the things you've planned. From your blog, and the comments, I see that there are many of us who didn't/don't dread having the children home for an extended period. I always loved it, and hated to see the return to school after two months off. Life would be better with more 'holiday hair', games around the kitchen table and long, leisurely meals.
Just read about your new machine. Wow! Please let us know how you get along with it. I'm still using my 27 year old Singer and every so often think about buying a new one.

  14. I'd pack my suitcase and come and join in the fun but I am have granddaughter no 1 next week and will be seeing 2 and 3 later next month so I am looking forward to the summer holidays. I can't remember how I felt when my own children were at home but I do remember having 'art' projects on the go to fill the days.

  16. Have great holidays Pip. We're looking forward to ours too. I just hope it doesn't rain. Perhaps next year we should keep the dates of the school holidays secret from who/whatever it is that decides to organise rain to coincide with them!

  18. I have mixed feelings about the holidays as I have to work part time which I resent as I would much rather be at home with my Isabel. Between both us parents we are still 3 weeks short of childcare and cannot have a holiday together as seperately we have 4 week cover between us. Family holidays have now become family weekends which is a real shame and hard to bear sometimes. Still I will treasure the time we do have together all the same. Dev x

  21. Can I come and stay too please?! It all looks like just my sort of holiday! I keep seeing your name on the blogs I like, so I thought I'd stop by and say hello - we must have tastes in common!

  22. Pip, I can't believe you do all this on your own, I believe you must have staff, oodles of staff tucked in cupboards, elves who come out at night time and do all the work. Am sure your "baby" will be just fine at big school, that it won't be as bad as you fear - though it's a fear i SO understand!

    Have a lovely weekend,

  25. Oh what lovely plans Pip. Holidays are a bit frantic for us as Woody and are both in and out with work but I should get a good few days a week at home.

Hope some of your calmness and serenity washes off on me! Just wish we had a beach to pop to when the sun shines.

Have a smashing time all together.

  26. Hi Pip, how wonderful that you have such sweet plans for your children. This will make lovely memories for both them and for you. I think what is best is that you really want to be with them and do things. Too many that I see, don't. You are a lovely Mother. And also, it brought back sweet memories of my own three boys and summer.
