River Views.

A few Friday images from the river to see you into the weekend.

Soft edges and ripply water.

Twists and turns

and tangled masses.

Solid shapes

and a gentle view to welcome the weekend in.

Of Ducks and Birthdays and Boats.

A strange thing happened here at Poltisko Farm during the night: Biscuit, our nesting duck, moved her entire nest and the eggs within a few paces to the left of where she had built it. Next to it lay one broken egg and one tiny, perfect little duckling, one not quite ready to hatch I would say, but not far from it. I have no idea if she moved because she had been threatened (the new spot is slighty more tucked away behind a lump of wood) or if there was some other reason, nor do I know whether the remaining eggs will now hatch or if they have been damaged by the move.

All I do know is that she seemed quite calm as she scoffed her breakfast at high speed, returning to turn the eggs with that amazing agility before settling down once more. So we shall wait and see what lies in store.

The alchemillas are flowering beautifully once again.

I so love the way the droplets of rain or dew are held by its soft leaves, suspended like so many jewels to dress the fairies' hair....maybe...

Meanwhile, elsewhere in the garden more earthy pleasures are taking place!

Elias has turned fourteen - today actually - and so the weekend called for one of Mr Davey's chocolate cakes of course.

Chilling out in the afternoon sun, tummies full of cake and chatting about nothing in particular as bees droned on the weigelia close by.

I did try to capture them as the flowering branches were covered in fat bees, but wither I was too slow or they were too fast.

I haven't shown you Penryn River for a while.

was this morning cast in a steely light, the foreboding clouds shifting slowly to reveal a sulphur glow beneath.

Rusted rings and chains twined with old weathered rope stood in stark relief in the still morning.

Have a lovely day x

So Much to Share.

Hmm, I seem to recall I was going to blog regularly once more. I think that was what I said wasn't it? Ah well, the best of intentions and all that. So what's been happening since last time? More taking of an afternoon stroll with parasol to hand.

Almost got it now.

A big fat roast dinner with my three eldest all in one house at the same time, not something that happens much now, but lovely when it does.

Davey sorted our extremely overgrown campfire area and restored it to its former beauty. We have already had so many evenings sitting by its warmth, drinks in hand and barbecue food close by.

Sometimes Lauren worked on her degree by it...(please note the decanter lurking close by filled with the most gorgeous mix of our homemade blackberry wine blended with a red to make the BEST wine EVER!

Sometimes we just ate by it or had quizzes with Lucy as quiz master

but always we have enjoyed it - lots.

In the garden the blackcurrants, gooseberries and redcurrants are growing away with promises of scrumptious things to come

and dear Biscuit is still sitting beautifully on her eggs...hurrah!

Davey is making elderflower wine and I will probably be making the first batch of elderflower cordial later today. I just love the stuff don't you?

Well, the work front has been busy... manic actually with a whole pile of these Little House Notebooks being embroidered and packaged before heading off to new homes.

I really enjoy making these notebook covers with their mix of hand and freehand machine embroidery, particularly since I added the option of personalising them with a name. I stitch away and wonder about the person receiving it, whether they will use it for sketching or lists - I do love list - or thoughts about life.

Who knows?

I also had my Ship, Ship Sailing Game featured in Cornish World, one of the lovely magazines centered around life here in Cornwall and the many artists who run businesses in our gorgeous county (including me that is!).

A lovely end to the week I must say.

Well, that's me done. Sorry it was so very, very long.

Bye for now x

Good Things.

Good things happening here lately? How about games in the garden between two pretty girls?

Hula Hoops and..

.

tickling and...

laughing until you nearly cry.

For Mamma there is the fun of watching (and joining in) and relaxing in the dappled shade of our very beautiful garden with flowers opening all around.

Frothy seas of limanthus flowers with their poached egg faces encouraging hover flies I hope

That blue, blue, blue of forget-me-nots

Scarlet poppies with those gorgeous dresses of softest silk

and pretty, scrumptious chives.

Our house nestles behind this lush scenery and quietly watches all that goes on.

Biscuit, one of our silver-cheeked appleyard pair of ducks, is once again sitting on her nest which now has plenty of soft feathers added for extra warmth.

She popped off for a quick feed and drink so I was able to grab these pictures before she noticed. I think she is actually doing it properly this time - ducks are notorious for leaving a nest once they are bored - and has sat constantly for a while now. Fingers crossed there may be little ones to show you in a few weeks.

But for now I must leave the garden and head back to the sewing room where there is a list of orders waiting for some hand embroidery to finish them off.

The computer is finally mended and so I will post more regularly again - shorter ones you will be glad to hear!

Have fun x
